Dura-Bar Distributor Rescues Gear Pump Mfg After Foundry Closes

Left high and dry by their supplier, the gear pump housing manufacturer found itself unable to find a foundry to produce the casting they needed.

Faced with the less-than-optimal alternative of dealing with a foreign supplier, the company turned to a Dura-Bar distributor for a solution, and chose gray iron.

Though at a slightly higher material cost, Dura-Bar was able to provide a total cost reduction due to:

Since the manufacturer produces housings of varying lengths, each part number had previously required the purchase of a separate pattern. Dura-Bar’s technical team worked together with the distributor and manufacturer to engineer a near-net shape. The Dura-Bar distributor was able to provide the manufacturer with cut-to-length pieces. All in all, the result was a total cost savings and improvement in quality.
