Human Resources Intern

Position SummaryThis opportunity will provide HR experience from recruiting, safety, benefits, compensation, employee relations and event planning. The HR Intern will be responsible for working on key projects supporting the different facets of HR.  The HR Intern will become part of the department and will be exposed to varying HR issues, at times working directly with a HR team member and at other times working on projects independently.  The HR Intern will become a key contributor in the recruiting process and team participation throughout the organization. Project work will vary from employee relations, research on new programs, company event planning and HCM/training database systems.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Enrollment in a Four-Year degree program for Human Resources, Business or related field with current status of at least a sophomore level with a minimum GPA of 2.75.
  • Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Marketing Intern

Position SummaryThe marketing intern will primarily focus on marketing research and analyzing market data for trends.  An emphasis on innovative concepts will play a key role in tracking and analyzing data.  The marketing intern will have the opportunity to work on special projects and provide support to the sales and marketing team.

Mechanical Engineering Intern

Position SummarySupport of the Engineering Department. Exposure to and project participation in many functional areas. Minimum Qualifications

Safety Intern

Position SummaryTo provide administrative, project, and safety training support to the Safety and Human Resources Department.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Enrollment in a Four-Year degree program for Occupational Safety or related field with current status of at least a junior level.
  • Computer skills – Word Documents, Spreadsheets (Microsoft Office).
  • Training skills (Ability to communicate effectively with small and large groups)
  • Administrative skills (filing, organization, etc).
  • Basic knowledge of OSHA Standards.

Electrician A

Position SummaryThe Electrician A maintains, trouble-shoots and upgrades equipment; repairs to meet code and operates to specification.  Directs apprentices & contractors on projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Electrical Apprenticeship or 2 year degree (Electricl, Electronic or Robotics)
  • 4 years of industrial electrician related experience
  • Ability to interpret and apply NEC and engineering regulations on a practical basis
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics
  • Ability to demonstrate trouble-shooting ability
  • Knowledge of drives, controls, motion controllers, PLCs and motors

Electrician- Third Shift

Position SummaryThe Electrician is responsible for trouble-shooting and upgrading equipment. In addition, this lead role includes mentoring apprentice electricians.  

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completed electrical apprenticeship or completed 2 year technical degree (Electrical, Electronic, or Robotics).

  • 4 years of industrial electrician related experience working in a manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to interpret and apply NEC and engineering regulations on a practical basis.

  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics in aid of troubleshooting and project implementation.

  • Knowledge of Medium Voltage power distribution systems.

  • Proficient in the use and interpretations of test equipment such as DVM, process meters, oscilloscope, and megger.

  • Knowledge of Drives, controls, motion controllers, PLCs and motors

  • Knowledge of operation of SCRs, rectifiers, capacitors and resistors.

  • Ability to lay out control panels using schematics and I/O mapping.

  • Understanding of NEC and NFPA-70E.

  • Demonstrate proper diagnostic and troubleshooting techniques

Machine Tool Maintenance Mechanic

Position Summary

The Machine Tool Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintenance and repair of all manufacturing equipment with a general focus on the finishing equipment in the plant.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Advanced understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems.
  • Ability to read blue-prints, electrical schematics and hydraulic diagrams.
  • An in-depth understanding of the application of technical documents such as machine & equipment manuals and safety documentation.
  • An in depth understanding of CNC controls such as Siemens and Mazatrol.
  • The ability to diagnose various sources of mechanical and industrial control related issues on CNC machines.
  • The ability to operate manual mills, lathes, saws, and drill presses.
  • Good manual dexterity and ability to use hand and power tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess good interpersonal, listening, and participation skills including ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
  • Strong skills and aptitude in math

Preferred Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of machine tool equipment design (servo motors, servo drives, encoders, etc.) is highly desirable.
  • Formal training with hydraulics and CNC machine control.
  • 5 plus years of experience with CNC and machine tool repair and maintenance.
  • 5 plus years of experience maintaining/repairing Gisholt turret lathes & Cincinnati duplex mills.
  • Highly proficient with computers.

Major Accountabilities

  • Perform advanced preventive and predictive maintenance inspections and repairs.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting on equipment mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and CNC control systems.
  • Determine appropriate corrective action for unplanned equipment failures including repairs, overhauls, and rebuilds.
  • Perform and observe operational checks to ensure that all problems have been corrected.
  • Demonstrate ability to plan and sequence work including ordering required parts and staging necessary tools and equipment.
  • Determine and/or develop maintenance procedures when documentation is not available.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of maintenance work performed.

Maintenance Mechanic

Position SummaryInstalls, maintains, and troubleshoots material handling equipment, pollution control equipment, production equipment, and manufacturing facility. Demonstrates high level of skill in using appropriate machine and hand tools.  Has necessary experience in accepted mechanical maintenance practices and procedures along with repair welding, cutting and rigging skills.

Major Accountabilities

  • Performs a wide variety of machine installation, maintenance and troubleshooting work to keep production and support equipment in operating conditions
  • Installs and replaces anti-frinciton bearings in all types of plant equipment such as  oscillating converoys, cut off and sawing equipment, centerless grinders, trepanning lathes, and many others; knows and  uses correct practices and procedures.
  • Installs, repairs, replaces, and troubleshoots power transmission drives and aligns and adjusts sheaves and couplings
  • Plan, layout, and install complex wiring circuits and distribution centers in conformance with establishes electrical codes; plan, measure, bend, and fir conduit.
  • Installs and troubleshoots motor control centers, power distribution panels, lighting panels and controls on plant equipment such as bar pulling machines, cut off equipment, centerless grinders, trepanning lathes, dust collectors, melting and holding furnaces and other similar types of equipment.
  • Repairs or replaces all components in the bar pulling systems overhead cranes, and Finishing Department equipment.
  • Proceeds independently to do jobs such as replacing a hydraulic cylinder on a holding furnace repairing a transmission in a centerless grinder , or replacing a coil on  cordless  furnace
  • Performs all work required to rig, move and erect all types of equipment for new installation, major part replacement, and layout changes; operates fork lift truck sometimes equipped with special attachments in a manner peculiar to maintenance for lifting, pulling and transporting; skillfully sues all types of rigging and hoisting equipment such as chain falls, jacks, and ratcheting hoists.
  • Uses maintenance shop tools in a skillful, competent and safe manner, including machine tools such as drill press, power saw and the hydraulic press as well as eclectic drills, grinders, sanders, pneumatic hammers, welding and cutting torches, wrenches hammers and a variety of others.
  • Follows all plant safety rules; knows how to lock out all plant equipment so that it is safe to work on; users safety equipment appropriate for the job; is aware of the safety of others.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles.  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Manufacturing Engineer Manager

Position Summary This position oversees the manufacturing engineering activities which cover development and implementation of manufacturing processes to maintain product functionality, quality and cost efficiency.  This position ensures the various engineering activities (manufacturing, process and industrial engineering) and production departments work together cohesively by providing good process control, product design, product lifecycle management, material workflow, people utilization, scheduling and capacity planning.  This position will be responsible for the key systems including: Manufacturing Execution System (MES), APQP database for quoting and launching new product, Production Reporting database, Process Improvement Investigations, Engineering Change Orders and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) master item Bill of Materials (BOMs), routings and tools. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Metallurgical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of design or process related experience working in a foundry or metal processing factory.
  • Drafting and CAD skills.
  • ERP, MES, and Product Data Management (PDM) database experience.
  • Continuous Improvement, Lean Tools, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis and Root-Cause Analysis experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in teams as a leader and as a member.
  • Ability to communicate and influence engineering driven change.

Major Accountabilities

  • Partner with technical staff to define process and product, especially as it relates to melting, processing and casting of iron.

  • Work with appropriate functions and staff to eliminate recurring problems through mistake proofing, automation, and process improvement.

  • Manage process control databases that are integrated with operations and implement automated systems (MES – Production Shop Floor).

  • Iterative product development leveraging established capabilities and technologies to launch variations of current product lines (manage APQP quoting and launch processes).

  • Optimize current technologies and manufacturing processes to improve safety, quality, manufacturing cycle times, asset utilization and total product costs.

  • Review, define and prioritize project requests, especially related to manufacturing process product improvements.

  • Coordinate with Quality Department for customer interactions.

  • Develop and implement scheduling and capacity studies, including material, standard rates and workflows in various departments.

  • Review, approve and update production and customer CAD drawings.

  • Work closely with finance and project engineers to provide ROI calculations, production studies, budgets and other cost improvement efforts.

  • Develop process, analysis and reports to analyze production and utility data.

  • Support and guide plant-wide Continuous Improvement efforts.

  • Direct: Engineering and CAD Operator Staff

  • Indirect: Technicians and supervisors on production process and product decisions, engineers on assignment to manufacturing activity.

Plant Engineering Manager

Position SummaryResponsible for Project Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Reliability Engineering and Maintenance support activity within Charter Dura-Bar.  Supervise and develop engineering staff.  Facilitate project management through project database with priority and progress review.  Coordinate requests and develop teamwork with Quality, Safety, Operations, Procurement, Maintenance and Finance Departments.  Drive Reliability Engineering activities to deliver equipment up-time.  Review and approve purchase expense spending for equipment upgrades, major repairs, facility improvements and safety general initiatives.  Coordinate and plan safety improvements, especially around material handling, machine guarding, LOTO and fall protection.
 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent.

  • Five plus years of engineering experience working in a manufacturing environment.

  • Three plus years of engineering or project management experience or equivalent.

  • Skill in project justification proposals and return on investment business case development.

  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal requiring tact and discretion.

  • Strong interpersonal skills in engaging with others and learning their area of the business.

  • Ability to communicate and influence engineering driven change.

  • Strong conflict management skills.

  • Ability to get work done through others and self-starter requiring little or no supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in engineering or business or related field or equivalent.

  • Foundry or casting environment experience preferred.

Major Accountabilities

  • Manage Dura-Bar Plant Engineering and Equipment Reliability efforts.
  • Manage staff and workload levels given engineering backlog, reactive work and planned activity for Project and Electrical Engineers.
  • Assign, track and hold accountable engineering staff on assignments and responsibilities.
  • Manage engineering staff development including training, performance goals, annual reviews, position profiles and project accountability. 
  • Submit quarterly capital budget updates and annual business plans.
  • Oversee annual intern/co-op program and ongoing Engineering recruitment.
  • Review and approve engineering designs, transactions, travel and proposals.
  • Coordinate and support Team Mandated Improvement projects.
  • Sustain engineering systems, tools and standards.
  • Coordinate plant shutdowns with maintenance and operations departments.
  • Investigate and recommend redesign of facility/equipment, recommend replacement plans and improvements to equipment to improve reliability (OEE).
  • Prepare and submit required reports to upper management.
  • Provide support to maintenance through Reliability programs, predictive maintenance, redesigns, direct troubleshooting and repairs with key staff.
  • Use personal computer, hand tools, other common office equipment, plant equipment and occasional use of CAD software.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or needed.
  • Accepting multiple tasks from various levels of management yet maintaining strict deadlines.
  • Balancing planned project load given daily reactive work and new requests.  Need to prioritize, clarify requirements and realize defined scopes.
